Rolfing Ten-Series™

The hallmark of Rolfing® Structural Integration is a structured sequence of sessions known as the Rolfing Ten-Series™, which is designed to progressively improve both the body’s structural alignment and patterns of functional movement over ten sessions of Rolfing® SI. The series follows a systematic approach to restoring balance throughout the entire body.

Each session addresses restrictions within specific regions while keeping the whole body in perspective. By maintaining this global view, the Rolfer™ supports a process of change that unfolds gradually and comfortably, allowing improvements in one area to support balance and function elsewhere.

The Rolfing Ten-Series™ is organized into three phases.

Sessions 1–3, often referred to as the “sleeve” sessions, focus on releasing tension in the more superficial layers of connective tissue. The first session emphasizes improving breathing capacity through work with the rib cage, diaphragm, arms, and upper legs, while also beginning to address the neck and spine. The second session concentrates on creating stability by organizing the feet and lower legs. The third session explores how the head, shoulders, and pelvis relate to one another in standing, helping the body adapt to a more efficient alignment within gravity.

Sessions 4–7, known as the “core” sessions, address deeper structures extending from the pelvis to the head, including the deep tissues of the legs that support the core. The fourth session focuses on the inner leg and pelvic floor region. The fifth session works to balance the abdominal tissues with the spinal curves. The sixth session emphasizes improved support and movement from the legs, pelvis, and lower back, while the seventh session concentrates on organizing the neck and head.

Sessions 8–10 emphasize integration. During these sessions, previously established changes are refined and coordinated so the body can move more fluidly and efficiently. Sessions eight and nine are individualized to support each person’s unique needs and movement patterns. The tenth and final session brings the series to completion by reinforcing overall balance and coherence, supporting lasting structural organization and ease of movement well beyond the completion of the series.
